Hey mofos, this article is intended to showcase some deals to get you up and streaming completely. The deals and products in this article are available at Best Buy online.
TOS / Disclaimer
RogueGOOSE1 is an affiliate partner of Best Buy. Offers are subject to change without warning. RG1 searches for the best deals available to deliver the Best information possible at time of review. You also must exercise your due diligence to ensure the offer is still valid at the time of purchase. Any issues with regard to the products themselves must be addressed with Best Buy or the appropriate manufacturer of the item. See Best Buys terms of service.
Now that the technical bits are out of the way, we can begin with our blog post.
So you want to stream some video games or other content? Hopefully you will have a great understanding of how RogueGOOSE1 creates content and some of the products I use by the end of this article.
What products do you need to stream?
- Gaming System
- TV / Monitor
- Additional Cameras
- Capture Card
These are not the base requirements. The minimum requirement for streaming of course could be as little as a cell phone. We are going a little deeper with that in mind. Of course, you can also go even further than these 10 items.
You just might need a gaming system to stream video games. If you plan to create content outside of gaming or do not wish to have live video of the actual games then you can skip this part. We will need one for those of us that do want to have live gaming.
PlayStation 4 / 5
These are some of the popular gaming systems available. XboxOne and PlayStation 4 are the most popular consoles available right now as next-gen consoles are still hard to get. The last gens run about $299.99 brand new at Best Buy. (less if you follow RG1).
Gaming PC’s are the top of the line option. It is best to have a computer of some type even if you are streaming from consoles; therefore, it may be in your best interest to go ahead and invest in a gaming PC. There are some great value options out there as well as some high powered options to throw money at for my whales.
Here are a few value options from our sponsor, Best Buy:
- iBUYPOWER – Trace MR Gaming Desktop
- HP OMEN – Gaming Desktop
- MSI -MPG Trident 3
- ASUS – ROG Strix GL10DH Gaming Desktop
- ASUS – ROG G531GT 15.6″ Gaming Laptop
There are 5 great deals from Best Buy. These are all gaming computers for under $1000. Being a pal of RogueGOOSE1 can also get you a better deal on these and other products. (Subtle plug)
I currently game and stream from an ASUS – ROG Strix similar to the GL10 listed in the deals. ASUS makes some good pc’s. No I am not affiliated with ASUS. At least, yet. The number 5 in the list is a gaming laptop which is quite popular and a great deal.
Gaming pc’s for under $1000 do have some downsides. They can not offer top of the line performance especially with multitasking (simultaneous streaming, coding, gaming, etc) but are a great way to get you into a nominally higher tier of stream quality.
TV / Monitor
Yes you can opt for either tv’s, monitors, or a combination. I use 2 monitors and 1 television in my current set up. This is primarily so that my PlayStation console is on the TV, my streaming software is on one monitor, and any additional resources is on the other. I do not always use a console in my streams; however, the 2 monitors are plenty for when I stream PC games.
Here are a few good value deals of monitors / tv’s:
- LG – 24″ Class LED HD TV (TV)
- Samsung – 32″ Class N5300 Series (TV)
- Samsung – CRG5 series 24” (Monitor)
- GIGABYTE – 27″ IPS (Monitor)
- Acer Nitro VG271 Pbmiipx 27″ (Monitor)
I wanted to include a range of products in the tv / monitor category. What you desire in this category can be left up to your exact specifications. I listed tv’s / monitors on the smaller side as that is the best way I have found for my set up. Some people want these big expensive 4k’s and curved monitors, but I will leave those for another article. All of these monitors are available for under 300 bucks (and a couple even cheaper). Cheaper rarely means better, but these can help dramatically.
You can sink money into webcams. Many streamer like to have a camera pointed at their hands (controller or mkb) while also having their face on scream. Others like to show off their gaming set ups. Whatever the case, you may want a good webcam. Here are some great deals from Best Buy:
I am only adding 2 Webcams on this list. The old adage is true. It is a safe bet to go with most Logitech devices here. Aluratek offers some great value devices, but Logitech is going to be one of the best valued brands out there.
These are web cameras. Not to be confused with other types of cameras that simply have other jobs to do in our content creation. We will get into those in further down the article. These webcams are typically wired to our computers, or they are otherwise connected via wifi / bluetooth. The sole purpose is to show something specifically to our audience at close range during the stream or video’s creation.
Side note: The Logitech C922 is one of the most popular models available.
Cameras that you can use while on-the-go are great ways to add extra levels of content to your stream / video creation. There are a couple types to choose from. DSLR, Camcorder, GoPro’s.
100% GoPro makes one of the best quality, best bang-for-buck devices on the market. The GoPro Hero 8 is currently on sale. There is good reason to have a separate camera, like a DSLR to pair with your outdoor adventures. Camcorders are can be a budget option as well. That is not to say that you can’t get a high quality camcorder. I am simply getting at bang-for-buck scenarios here. High quality camcorders are highly desirable, but for the same money you can get a wild DSLR, or for way cheaper -a GoPro Hero 8.
With that in mind, let’s list some great value options:
Okay, I am just a bit biased here; however, I have listed 1 of each. A GoPro, DSLR, and a Camcorder. These are all phenomenal options under $1000. You can spend insane amount of money on cameras, but that will be left for another article.
HERO8 – I chose the GoPro HERO8 over the latest model GoPro HERO9 because it is just barely out of date, and there are some great deals out for this amazing quality device! I have some links available on streaming bundles that cut the price down dramatically! (partnered with Best Buy)
A decent microphone is a must have. Sure, you can spend big bucks here on a great set up with software and the works; or, you can get a great quality device to get started.
Here are some great quality / value devices:
- Blue Yeti X Professional Condenser USB Microphone
- Elgato – Wave:3
- Razer – Seirēn X
- Sony – Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone
There are few different types listed here. The top 2 are under $200, the Seiren X is under $100, and the Sony Omnidirectional is under $20. They have a few different uses so read the description carefully if you choose to research the device for purchase. I am also available to answer questions via Discord or Facebook..
A good value microphone isn’t hard to find, except during quarantine. I most recommend Blue Microphones, but the others listed are great devices as well.
Capture cards are great for systems that don’t have built in capture cards. Many top of the line PC’s do come equipped with such devices, but here we are talking external capture cards.
The list of value capture cards:
I would be shocked to learn any other two external capture card were more popular than these 2. These are both under $200 and they both have lesser and higher quality variants. There is simply no way that you are researching external capture cards and do not run across variants of these 2. These are great external capture cards and worth every bit of money if you are going to be using an external capture card for PS4, PS5, XBOXOne, Xbox Series, gaming pc without built in device, or any other system without a built in capture card.
Lighting was the death of me when I started out. (and sometimes still is). It doesn’t take much to have a well lit face or background. I recall using my phone’s light to help when I got desperate. There are some cheap lighting systems that can be amazing quality streaming tools. What is the best lighting for streaming?
The lighting list:
- Digipower – The Streamer
- Lume Cube – Broadcast Lighting Kit
- Philips – Hue Play White & Color Ambiance Smart LED Bar Light
- Elgato – Ring Light – Black
- Sunpak – LED 448 19″ Bi-Color Ring Light
There are many sizes, prices, and reasons for use among these devices. All under $200 (some way under $200). They offer a wide range of use. I have found light bars or circles to be great devices as they evenly distribute lighting and leave less shadowing.
A desk or streaming area should be much more like a workstation. The biggest difference being that your work computer may not have a high power graphics card. Having an efficient work space can be an amazing way to deliver high quality content.
Good desk / workstation additions:
- Walker Edison – Modern L-Shaped Tempered Glass Computer Desk
- Calico Designs – Study Corner Desk – Silver/Maple
- Walker Edison – L-Shaped Wood Corner Bookcase Computer Desk – Reclaimed Barnwood
- Atlantic – Gaming Pro Stright Computer Desk – Charcoal
- Noble House – Wilcox Computer Desk – Black
- Walker Edison – 60″ Modern Industrial USB Power Computer Desk – Grey Wash
- Z-Line Designs – Cyrus Computer Desk – Cherry/Black
- Calico Designs – Arch Tower Computer Desk – Black/Silver
- Sauder – Carson Forge Collection Computer Desk – Washington Cherry
- Sauder – Clifford Place Collection L-Shaped Computer Desk – Grand Walnut
I wanted to include many types of desktop / computer desks. This is mostly because the list of in-style or available options is ever changing. It also is important to find the right table or desk that fits your exact needs. Remember, this is your workstation. You want to be comfortable. For most of us, this is going in our homes, so a good looking product is important as well. There are solid wood and completely metal options in this list. There are also some cheaper materials listed as well. These desks could potentially be holding high value items, so sturdiness is important.
I will be making many articles about choosing items for your workspace as well as some DIY ideas.
A headset can act as a microphone in a pinch. Although… it shouldn’t. A headset delivers premium access to team communication. If you are a Warzone, Fortnite, or similar team based gamer -use a headset solely for gaming. It is important to have the game sound being recorded, and in your ears as well. Not all devices can accomplish this effectively.
You do not have to spend big here, but some research is highly recommended. Tailor it to YOUR needs.
Best value headsets:
- Turtle Beach – Recon 200
- Razer – Kraken X
- CORSAIR – HS70 PRO
- HyperX – Cloud II Pro
- Astro Gaming – A10
I wanted to keep all the headsets in this list under $100. These are amazing headsets that are under a hundred bucks. They are also ALL wired. I am a solid, 100% hater of wireless headsets. The explanation of which may come out in a future article.
These are also just about the only brands I would personally use. There are some exceptions, but this is a very good list of what brands to look into.
I will not spend a load of time with going deep into all the software that could help in your stream or content creation. This is going to be by necessity, short list.
- Broadcasting software
- Video Editor
- Audio Software
Short list here. For starters, a broadcasting software pushes towards a must have. I recommend Streamlabs OBS. xSplit also makes some quality broadcasting software.
Windows movie maker 10 – Pro is a valuable software for only $10 in the windows store. I am unsure of the non-windows equivalent, but it is necessary for editing videos.
Audio will always be my biggest struggle. ANY software that can help me in this area is a big help, and I will look into any time I see something new.
That is all the time I will spend on software for this article.
I have listed an absolute ton of information and products available. All of the hardware, of course, is available at Best Buy. Once again, I am an affiliate partner of Best Buy. That is primarily because I like getting the majority of my gear from one place, and Best Buy has all of my favorite brands. Some of the items discussed in this article are not available at Best Buy, like Streamlabs OBS.
There are indeed a lot of products available in this article. All of which are linked to my page directly. Any on-going deals should auto populate with the links as they correspond with my affiliate discounts etc.
Please let me know if you have used any of these products or if you would like further information. I have used, or am using either the exact product -or one very similar.
